There is so much confusion around the term balayage. I have had guests come in asking for a balayage to find out they just want an all over color. Its time to clear things up, at least in my corner of the hair world.

  • PRONOUNCED BAH-LEE-AHGE.

  • Its a technique not a result, balayage is French for “sweeping” , sweeping motions, the way to apply the color product. Many think balayage is the end result, this is why coming to your appointment with photos to show is crucial.

  • Balayage can produce a variety of end results. By using a sweeping motion during application your stylist can create so many looks; a highlighted look, a soft look, a dimensional look, a ombre look.. the options are endless.

  • Balayage can be done without touching bleach, for example painting darker colors into the hair for more depth. Sweeping motions using color instead of bleach adds depth where desired. This is great for clients who feel too blonde or feel like they lack dimension.

  • Its for all hair types. Any length can add differintial elents by sweeping product into the hair. Pixi , bob, long, curly. All are perfect candidates for this technique.

Balayage has been around for a long time but in recent years the conception is that its a result vs a way of applying color. I hope this baayage break down helps you when booking your next appointment.
